Hermes Agent cleans up your desktop and makes plugin installs smoother

Hermes v0.22.4 update: what changed in this release, explained in plain language.

Version Info

Item Content
Version v0.22.4
Release Date October 21, 2026
Release Type Patch Release
One-liner A small update mostly about “patching things up”: the desktop app no longer pops up extra tooltip bubbles, plugin installation skips an empty step, and a few small issues in the dashboard and build process got fixed along the way.

Plain-English Breakdown

Those “chatty” little bubbles above the input box are gone

If you’ve used the desktop app, you may have seen a row of little tooltip bubbles popping up above the input box from time to time, mostly nagging you to configure an MCP server. They appeared out of nowhere, like someone slipping you notes before you’d even said a word. This update removes those bubbles along with the helper code that existed only to serve them. Now the area above the input box is clean and quiet—just type, and nobody bothers you.

Plugins with nothing to install no longer ask you to “agree”

Previously, when installing a plugin—even one with zero dependencies and an empty pyproject.toml—the system would still pop up a “do you agree to install dependencies?” confirmation. You’d click agree, and nothing actually got installed. It’s like receiving a package whose only contents are a note saying “this box is empty,” and you still have to sign for it. Now these plugins are enabled directly, skipping that pointless step.

WhatsApp in the dashboard can be re-paired after logging out

After logging out of WhatsApp in the dashboard, re-pairing used to get stuck. That’s fixed now—log out, pair again, and the flow works. For anyone using WhatsApp to connect with Hermes, this is a real convenience.

The approval mode badge now follows your current config

The desktop app has a small badge showing the “approval mode,” and previously it might not follow the config profile you were currently using—what it showed didn’t match what you’d actually set. Now it faithfully reflects the mode of the current profile, so what you see is what you set.

Plugin review and packaging: two small backend fixes

During desktop plugin review, the UI check no longer falsely flags issues like “prototype writes”—those now go to manual review instead. Also, on machines with slower storage, the release build’s pre-check now has more time to validate the archived build inputs, reducing build failures caused by timeouts.

New arrivals in the plugin directory, and a few “moved house”

The plugin directory gained a few new members this time: the bwrap terminal backend on Linux, Singularity/Apptainer, mcp-serve (which uses Hermes itself as an MCP server), and hermes import-agent with Cursor support, among others. Meanwhile, Telegram Business moved from its original spot to the Hermes Labs community tier.

A few security patches thrown in

This release also upgrades several underlying dependencies (including postcss-selector-parser, oauthlib, tinypool, and others), fixing publicly disclosed security issues. You won’t notice these changes day to day, but it’s like swapping in a sturdier lock for your house.

Summary

v0.22.4 isn’t the kind of big release that turns heads—it’s more like a careful round of housekeeping: clearing the annoying little bubbles off your desktop, cutting the extra step in plugin installation, tuning up a few displays that didn’t match, and patching security holes along the way. For regular users, the most noticeable difference is simply this—a cleaner desktop, smoother plugin installs, and fewer weird hiccups and interruptions. If you’re on the Microsoft Store version, the update pushes automatically; command-line users can just run hermes update.
