Plain-English Breakdown
A “packaged release” that puts half a year of work in your hands at once
This release is a bit like taking all the parts scattered across your desk and fitting them into one sturdy box. Since the last stable version, the team merged 460 improvement requests, closed 475 issues, and touched nearly 5,000 files. The official word is that a more detailed “walkthrough” will be saved for the next major version, v0.22.0 — but nothing is missing, you’re just getting a stable release you can safely use first.
Desktop plugins: as easy as installing an app on your phone
This release quietly ships a full “plugin toolkit” on desktop. From now on, installing a plugin is like installing an app on your phone: it works the moment it’s installed, and the tools and skills it brings show up right in every chat window you open. The old MCP tab has been replaced by a more intuitive “Connectors” page, with a “Connect Now” button right next to each new plugin — no more digging through docs to find the config.
Friendlier onboarding, broader language support
When you open Hermes for the first time, the onboarding flow now recommends both “Connectors” and “Directory Plugins,” so you know what’s available right from the start. The desktop app also now has complete French, German, and Spanish interfaces, plus a new right-to-left text direction setting, which will look much better for users of Arabic and similar languages.
More freedom in model selection, smoother voice control
You can now manually enter a custom model directly from the input box or settings, no longer limited to the options in the list. The model catalog has also been updated with GPT-6’s Sol/Terra/Luna and Claude Opus 5.5. On the voice side, there are new function keys and dictation shortcuts — just speak to operate, without your hands leaving the keyboard.
Multi-account management: each “persona” gets its own on/off switch
If you manage multiple Hermes configurations at once (say, one for work and one for personal use), you can now stop, start, or restart any one of them individually under the host multiplexer, and you can use gateway.standalone to let a configuration run independently. It’s like having several appliances at home, each with its own switch, none interfering with the others.
A better-looking task board, clearer queue indicators
The board interface got a round of design polish: the ticket popup is now a two-column layout, and task descriptions support Markdown formatting, making them clearer to write. In the command line and terminal interface, you’ll also see real-time indicators of the current goal being executed and what’s queued up, so you always know “what the little assistant is busy with right now and how many things are lined up behind it.”
Messages no longer get “lost,” background runs faster
Messages coming in through webhooks now show up synchronously in the corresponding chat session — no more “the backend received it but it’s not visible in chat.” At the same time, the team did a long list of performance optimizations on key paths like config loading, tool registration, gateway message handling, and model selection, making everyday use feel more responsive.
New partners join: Blender, NVIDIA, and a pile of community plugins
The team added a Blender Lab integration, plus NVIDIA app and Broadcast plugins. The plugin directory has also been flooded with community creations, so your options keep growing.
Summary
For regular users, the biggest takeaway from this update is: simpler plugin installation, a friendlier interface, more flexible multi-account management, and a more stable, faster background. The team is saving the detailed walkthrough for the next major version, but what you’re getting now is already a packaged, stable release you can safely upgrade to.
